NOWSHOT
Privacy policy
Last updated: October 16, 2026
This policy describes how Nowshot (此刻), provided by XYZ AI Lab, handles information in the app and on this website. You can contact the Nowshot team at official@xyz-ai.app.
Your photos stay under your control
Nowshot does not require a separate account and does not operate a server that receives your photo library, videos or visit history. The app has no advertising or third-party analytics SDKs and does not sell personal information or track you across other companies’ apps and websites.
Camera, microphone and photo library
Camera access is used to capture photos, Live Photos and videos. Microphone access records sound for videos and Live Photos. Photo access lets you save new captures and browse or edit the items you authorize. Limited photo access only exposes selected items. Processing for previews, albums, stickers and artwork takes place on your device. Sharing or exporting sends the items you choose to your selected destination, whose privacy practices then apply. Location metadata may be included in original files.
Location and reminders
With permission, system visit events and occasional location fixes help identify photo opportunities. With Weather & light on and location set to Always, the app also keeps receiving your approximate area in the background (these updates request only kilometer-level accuracy; a forecast check briefly confirms your location) so weather reminders follow where you are; these positions are not stored, not uploaded and not used to record a route. To stop background location, turn off Weather & light or change Nowshot’s location access to While Using the App in iOS Settings. Return Trips compares the city you are in with the cities in your photos on the device and does not infer your home or workplace. Visit history and reminder decisions are processed locally; the places view shows up to 90 days of retained visits. Blocked-place rules remain until you restore reminders there. When recording capture locations is enabled, coordinates and place names can be saved with photos and videos, including in the system photo library and original files. Turn this off in Settings to stop recording locations for new captures.
Notifications
Nowshot’s notifications are local notifications created on your device; it does not use a push notification service, and their content does not pass through any server of ours. Depending on what you turn on, they include capture reminders for places, trips and Weather & light, Return Trips notices when you arrive in a city you photographed before, Photo Recap’s monthly recap and weekly summary, a reminder two days before a free trial ends (only if notifications are already allowed), and a silent notice when you swipe Nowshot away in the app switcher while reminders depend on it running. The time of that close is noted on the device only, to show how long reminders were paused. You can turn each kind off in the app (the closed notice under Capture reminders → Stay in the background, or with the notice’s Don’t notify again action) or turn off notifications in iOS Settings.
Apple and map services
Place-name lookups, including naming new places in Photo Recap and cities in Return Trips, send the coordinates being looked up to Apple. Opening maps also uses Apple services. Viewing a photo with a location in Moment details or Shuffle also looks up that photo’s place name; names are kept only until the app closes. Place-history lookups can occur when viewing places even if recording capture locations is off. In builds that support WeatherKit, enabled weather reminders send an approximate location, rounded to about 1 km, to Apple to obtain forecasts.
iCloud sync
iCloud sync is optional, part of membership and off by default. When you turn it on, Nowshot uses the iCloud of your Apple Account: your settings and preferences (including blocked-place rules and Return Trips city choices, with their locations) and the covers you picked are kept in iCloud key-value storage, and your stickers and fridge doors, with their images, are kept in Nowshot’s container in your private iCloud database (CloudKit). Apple stores this data, it counts toward your iCloud storage, and only devices signed in to your Apple Account can read it; the developer cannot access it, and Nowshot runs no server of its own. iCloud sync does not include photo or video originals, visit history, drafts or app media copies. System iCloud Photos and device backups follow your Apple settings.
Purchases and subscriptions
Membership is available as a weekly, monthly or yearly auto-renewable subscription (monthly and yearly can start with a free trial) or as a one-time lifetime purchase. Apple handles payment, trials, renewals, cancellations and refunds through your Apple Account under its own terms; Nowshot does not receive your payment card details or billing address. Through StoreKit, the app reads transaction, renewal and entitlement status on the device to unlock features and show your trial or renewal date. You can manage or cancel a subscription in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or from My membership in the app.
Region boundary downloads
The places atlas may download public region boundaries from Alibaba Cloud DataV, geoBoundaries and their file hosts. Requests identify a country or administrative region, not your photos or precise coordinates; matching coordinates to boundaries happens on the device. Like other network services, these providers receive an IP address and normal request information.
Website and support messages
This website is hosted through Cloudflare, which processes network information such as IP address and request details to deliver and protect it. A language cookie remembers a language you explicitly choose for up to one year; you can clear it in your browser. We do not add advertising trackers. If you email support, we receive your email address, message and any attachments you choose to send, and use them to respond and resolve the request. Do not send passwords, payment card details or private photos unless necessary for the issue.
Storage, retention and deletion
The app keeps local settings, capture records, previews, edits and drafts. Once a capture is linked to its saved system original, duplicate local media can be cleaned up; unsaved drafts remain until saved or deleted. Temporary sharing originals are cleaned up when the detail view closes. Local diagnostic events are capped at the latest 300 and are not automatically uploaded. Extra time and location used for delayed-visit matching only participate during the hour after capture and are cleaned up on a later app opening or visit event. You can delete media in the app; deleting a system original requires the system confirmation and is subject to Photos recovery rules. Uninstalling removes app-local data, but not system Photos originals or existing cloud data. Turning off iCloud sync, or a membership ending, pauses sync but does not erase what is already in iCloud; deleting a sticker or fridge door while sync is on also removes it from iCloud. Restore reminders for a blocked place while sync is enabled to sync removal of that rule. Support correspondence is retained as needed to handle the request and any applicable obligations; contact us to request access, correction or deletion of information you sent us. We cannot remotely access or erase device-only data.
Permissions and choices
You can withdraw camera, microphone, photo, location and notification permissions in iOS Settings. You can disable automatic reminders, weather reminders, Return Trips, Photo Recap notifications, the closed notice, capture-location recording and iCloud sync in the app. Related features may become unavailable. Information sent to Apple, infrastructure providers or a destination you choose is handled under their policies and may be processed where they operate.
Changes and privacy requests
We update this page when data practices change and show the revision date above. For questions, requests concerning information you provided to us, or concerns about a child’s information, contact official@xyz-ai.app.
Apple Watch
Photo sync is off by default. Enable it on iPhone; clear Watch previews anytime. Originals stay in your library. System settings govern notifications and background delivery.
